Are We There Yet?

The truth is, we haven't even left yet. It's not even May. We're still in the planning stages. Everything has to be in order before we leave stability behind and plunge off into space. We need to be ready to pull that ripcord.

Stepping out into the unknown is difficult. It's a test of courage and confidence. Many of us are flying along in the plane of corporate life. We've been buzzing overhead for some time now. We've been outfitted with parachutes, we fiddle with our jump jackets and chin straps. But we just keep sitting here on the plane, staring out the open door full of sky.

Well, now is the time. Time to spread our wings and fly. We need to jump and care not where we land. But I know with the soft fluffy parachute over our heads and the entire world stretched out before us, we will have safe and happy landings wherever we come down. And you will to, if you join us...

This is an excellent idea, Jake. I can't wait until the two of you spread your wings and escape this corporate hell-hole. Hey, who knows?... Maybe you can convince Ingrid and me to do the same.

"I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move, to feel the needs and hitches of our life more nearly; to come down off this feather-bed of civilization, and find the globe granite underfoot..."

    -- Robert Louis Stevenson

"The mere animal pleasure of traveling in a wild unexplored country is very great...the effect of travel on a man whose heart is in the right place is that the mind is made more self-reliant; it becomes more confident of its own resources."

    -- David Livingstone

"The proper function of man is to live, not to exist. I shall not waste my days trying to prolong them. I shall use my time."

    -- Jack London
